MC: What are your predictions for digital marketing trends in 2020?

JP: More and more, the media model and the digital marketing model will continue to converge. We will have a hard time telling product and service brands and media brands apart. Actually, it’s already happening (Amazon, Disney, Arrow Electronics, etc.).

MC: What do you consider the most important fields in Digital Marketing at the moment?

JP:  Social Media. Marketers need to decide how much control they are willing to give to these platforms.

AI – Marketing and AI is going run through our industry like a freight train. We better be prepared.

Content Marketing – Not all companies will have content marketing strategies…only the innovative ones with real growth potential.

MC: Your thoughts on brand ambassadors / ambassador marketing?

JP: Employees have always been the best marketing for companies. Brands can either choose to leverage this or not. Most choose not to.

MC: A word of advice for young digital marketers?

JP: Stay off social media as much as possible and value the time you have to experience life and relationships with others outside the screen.

Katie has authored one of the definitive guides to AI in Marketing: Using Artificial Intelligence in Marketing: How to Harness AI and Maintain the Competitive Edge.

What Katie has to say about the future of digital marketing

“We’re witnessing a new paradigm in marketing, as AI impacts every aspect of marketing, from market research to ambassador marketing. If we look ahead to 2020, the customer will, or at least should be, at the centre. Tools using machine learning (part of the AI family) are allowing banks, retailers and many other organisations to provide less homogenised and far more personalised marketing.  The key will be tailoring products and solutions to meet customer needs.

Digital marketing will evolve dramatically over the coming 2-5 years.  The pace at which this takes shape will depend on that company or agency’s approach to risk; its ambition and the nature of the competitive landscape.  Tasks will change as further AI focused automation reduces the burden of mundane tasks.

“According to the World Economic Forum, the best skills to focus on will be complex problem solving, critical thinking and creativity.” - @Katieking Click To Tweet

What Karl has to say about the future of digital marketing

MC: Your predictions for digital marketing trends in 2020?

KG: Fuck trends. That’s one of the biggest problems with marketing. They love to go from trend to trend, from tool to tool. The result of that is bullshit marketing. Really successful companies don’t jump on new trends all the time.

So that’s the one trend you should follow: focus on your customer.

MC: What do you consider are the most important fields in Digital Marketing at the moment?

KG: User research. Get an in-depth knowledge of your customer and prospects. Not based on charts and numbers. But in-depth qualitative research. Happy customers grow companies.

MC: What are your thoughts on brand ambassadors / ambassador marketing?

KG: Yep. Happy customer = ambassador for your brand. It’s always been like that and it will always be like that. But it should be genuine. Not the fake ambassadorship by so-called influencers. Don’t invest in influencers as a company. Invest in customer happiness and you will have ambassadors for free.

MC: A word of advice for young digital marketers?

KG: Go out and talk with clients. The day you say ‘I know our customers; I don’t need to research anymore’ go find yourself another job. Never sit in a meeting thinking what a client would do. Go out and research.

Today we have a big challenge to face: Google, Facebook, and every program and social we can think of, one day will disappear for sure. This world is evolving really fast and we need to be prepared and clever enough to use the tools we have to help generate sales and to find a way to use them intelligently.” – Christian Farioli

What Mike has to say about the future of digital marketing

MC: Your predictions for digital marketing trends in 2020?

MS: Business will continue to embrace API business models to explore the value in wider brand deployment and data opportunities. As business realises that one digital solution won’t perfectly fit their business they will turn to digital professionals to implement complex collaborations between digital tools.

Measurement will become increasingly difficult as the volume of channels to customers increases and the lack of consolidated measurement metrics continue.

MC: What do you consider the most important fields in Digital Marketing at the moment?

MS: Social CRM, AI user experiences, developing brand utility through online tools.

MC: What are your thoughts on brand ambassadors / ambassador marketing?

MS: Brands must look to nurture long term brand trust instead of buying short term influence. Influencers have ended up selling space on their feed instead of partnering with brands to influence their market positively.

MC: A word of advice for young digital marketers?

Critically assess the problem your client faces. Solve their problem first, then implement the digital solution. Too many businesses fail because they implement technology first without considering the solution to their problem correctly.

What Dylan has to say about the future of digital marketing

MC: Your predictions for digital marketing trends in 2020?

DK: Digital marketing is all about authenticity, there is an increase in the need for brands to connect in an authentic, trustworthy and credible way with their customers.

MC: What do you consider the most important fields in Digital Marketing at the moment?

DK: I believe the most important fields in digital marketing right now to be explored, is community marketing. Work out how you can create a digital and physical community where you add value, and where you create loyal and passionate followers, who also happen to buy from you too.

MC: What are your thoughts on brand ambassadors / ambassador marketing?

DK: I’m a big fan of ambassador marketing – I prefer it to influencer marketing, in that an ambassador doesn’t have to have a huge following, they just have to be a real user, who uses your product and who other users, who are just like them, can identify with quickly and easily. Turn them into posters and put them up on your stores, videos, websites, ads.

MC: A word of advice for young digital marketers?

DK: Try to specialise in one field and master it better than anyone else out there.
